Motorcycle Collision on Southbound 710 Freeway Causes Major Traffic Disruptions in South Gate

A serious collision on the southbound 710 Freeway in South Gate has resulted in multiple lanes being closed after a motorcyclist became trapped under an SUV. The crash occurred around 5 p.m. on Thursday, near the Clara Street Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Initial reports suggest that the motorcyclist and an SUV were involved in a collision, which caused the motorcyclist to become lodged underneath the vehicle. The situation quickly escalated, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Newschopper4 provided aerial footage showing emergency responders and bystanders working together in a desperate attempt to free the trapped motorcyclist. The images depicted a tense and chaotic scene as firefighters and paramedics worked to extricate the rider, who was pinned beneath the SUV.

As a result of the collision, a SigAlert was issued for the southbound 710 Freeway, which warned drivers of significant delays in the area. According to CHP, lanes 1, 2, and 3 of the southbound side of the freeway were closed to allow emergency personnel to respond to the crash site. Traffic was backed up for miles, with many drivers being diverted to alternate routes or forced to wait in heavy congestion.

The CHP reported that bystanders on the scene played a crucial role in assisting emergency responders in lifting or stabilizing the SUV long enough for the motorcyclist to be safely removed.

While the motorcyclist’s condition has not been publicly disclosed, emergency crews treated the individual at the scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital. At this time, the severity of the injuries is unknown, but the crash has raised concerns about the safety of motorcyclists on California’s busy roadways.

The closure of multiple lanes along a key stretch of the 710 Freeway created substantial traffic delays, and commuters in the area were urged to seek alternative routes. Southbound traffic, already heavy at that time of day, came to a standstill as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the collision.

By late evening, CHP had confirmed that lanes were being gradually reopened as the scene was cleared. However, motorists were advised to avoid the area for some time as residual delays continued.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities are working to gather more details. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by both motorcyclists and other drivers on California's roadways.
