Malvern Shooting, Authorities Investiage After Person Shot near Hot Spring County Courthouse

A shooting near the Hot Spring County Courthouse disrupted the downtown area Friday afternoon, prompting swift action from local law enforcement and courthouse staff.

According to Hot Spring County Judge Dennis Thornton, the incident occurred about a block from the courthouse. The injured victim, who had been shot in the arm, sought refuge in the collector's office, leading courthouse officials to immediately place the building on lockdown to ensure the safety of those inside.

Emergency responders quickly transported the injured individual to a nearby hospital for medical care. Judge Thornton confirmed the victim's injury appeared non-life-threatening.

The Malvern Police Department is actively investigating the incident and is on the scene to manage the situation. Officials have not yet released details about the circumstances of the shooting or whether any suspects are in custody.

“This kind of violence is always alarming, particularly when it occurs so close to a public space like the courthouse,” Judge Thornton said. "We are grateful for the prompt response of law enforcement and first responders.”

Authorities have assured the public that updates will be shared as more information becomes available. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.
