Lacresha Black Death, Obituary: Lacresha Black shot, killed in Springfield Township; suspect Terea Brown dead after police chase in Indiana

A tragic incident unfolded in Springfield Township on the morning of Monday, November 18, 2024, when 33-year-old Lacresha Black was shot and killed outside her residence.

The Springfield Township Police Department responded to the scene, located in the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue, just after 7 a.m. following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found Black lying outside the front door of her home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, Black was pronounced dead at the scene.

The local community was left reeling as authorities began their investigation. Detectives quickly identified 42-year-old Terea Brown as a suspect in Black's death.

Brown, who is believed to have been involved in a personal or domestic dispute with Black, fled the scene in a dark-colored 2014 Chevrolet Cruze before emergency personnel arrived. The suspect's flight led police to initiate a search for Brown, who was soon located in Clinton County, Indiana, hours after the shooting.

The situation escalated when Brown was involved in a police chase with the Indiana State Police. Authorities pursued her vehicle after she failed to pull over, resulting in a tense and high-speed pursuit.

The chase ultimately ended when a gunshot was fired from inside Brown’s vehicle, prompting police to respond with gunfire. Officers pursuing Brown fired shots at the vehicle, but the confrontation ended tragically.

Brown was subsequently found deceased, and it was confirmed that she had died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during the exchange with law enforcement.

The circumstances surrounding the pursuit remain under investigation, and both Springfield Township and Indiana State Police are working together to piece together the chain of events that led to Black's death and Brown's subsequent demise.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with information related to the shooting or the sequence of events leading to Brown’s death to come forward.

Those with relevant details are asked to contact the Springfield Township Police Department at 513-729-1300 or the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division at 765-567-2125.

As the investigation continues, family, friends, and the local community of Springfield Township are left mourning the loss of Lacresha Black. Her untimely death serves as a stark reminder of the violence that can plague communities, particularly in domestic-related incidents. The case is now under intense scrutiny as authorities work to gather further evidence and understand the full scope of the tragic events.

The case also raises broader concerns about the handling of violent disputes and the risks faced by both civilians and law enforcement officers when such situations escalate. With the loss of two lives, the Springfield Township community, along with law enforcement agencies, must navigate the complex emotional and legal aftermath of this double tragedy.
