The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in White Pine on Saturday, November 9. Authorities say the man accused of killing Joshua Barnes, 45, is not in custody as of Thursday, November 14. In a Facebook post, the JCSO identified the victim as Barnes and confirmed that the accused shooter, Jason Scalf, 37, was located at the scene of the incident.



While Scalf was initially detained, officials later clarified that he is not currently in custody. The sheriff's office did not specify whether Scalf is facing any formal charges, and the reasons for his release remain unclear at this time. The shooting occurred on Beth Carr Road at approximately 1:36 p.m. on Saturday. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Barnes, who was pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). 

The authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident. As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff's office has not released additional information regarding potential motives or the events leading up to the shooting.
