Monash Freeway Accident - Monash Freeway Reopens After Multi-Vehicle Incident, Traffic Remains Heavily Delayed

All outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway near Burke Road, Glen Iris, have been successfully re-opened following a major multi-vehicle incident that caused significant traffic disruptions earlier today.

While the scene of the crash has been cleared, traffic conditions remain heavily congested in both directions as drivers continue to experience lengthy delays.

Citybound traffic is particularly affected, with delays of up to 30 minutes reported as vehicles inch their way through the area. On the outbound side, commuters are facing even longer wait times, with delays now extending for over 90 minutes.

This has caused a ripple effect, with congestion spilling onto surrounding roads, including the West Gate Freeway, where traffic is also moving at a crawl. Motorists trying to avoid the Monash Freeway are finding that alternative routes have also been impacted.

Major connecting roads such as Toorak Road, Glenferrie Road, Malvern Road, Burke Road, and Tooronga Road are seeing significantly heavier-than-usual traffic volumes, as drivers seek detours around the gridlock.

The combination of accidents and the large number of vehicles attempting to navigate through the area has resulted in widespread delays that have affected commuters' travel times.

Emergency services have worked tirelessly throughout the day to investigate the cause of the crash and clear the vehicles from the freeway. This extensive work required several lanes to be closed temporarily, exacerbating the already strained traffic conditions. Thankfully, all lanes are now open, and the scene has been cleared.

Authorities are advising motorists to continue exercising caution while driving through the area, as residual traffic and delays persist. It is expected that the full flow of traffic will take some time to return to normal, as the ripple effect from the accident continues to be felt across the region.

In the meantime, the public is urged to remain patient as road crews continue to manage the traffic situation. For those still on the roads, it is recommended to use live traffic apps for real-time updates and consider alternative routes where possible to minimize further delays. Thank you to all for your patience during this challenging situation.
