Death - Ryan Kobayashi Maui Suicide, Obituary: Father of missing Maui woman Hannah Kobayashi in Los Angeles found dead near LAX

The search for 31-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, a Maui woman who went missing in Los Angeles nearly two weeks ago, took a heartbreaking turn when her father, Ryan Kobayashi, was found dead near LAX early Sunday morning.

Authorities confirmed that Ryan, who had traveled to Los Angeles with family members to search for Hannah, tragically took his own life after tirelessly looking for his daughter for nearly two weeks.

Hannah’s disappearance has left her family in turmoil. She was last seen on November 11 near the Pico Metro Station in downtown Los Angeles after missing a connecting flight at LAX on November 8.

Her aunt, Larie Pidgeon, revealed that Hannah had been traveling from Maui to New York City to visit family but decided to attend a Lebron James event at The Grove during her layover in Los Angeles.

Shortly after, Hannah began sending alarming text messages, expressing fear and concern about someone potentially trying to steal her money and identity. The messages grew increasingly cryptic, referencing “the matrix,” before communication abruptly ceased.

Ryan Kobayashi had publicly pleaded for Hannah’s safe return just days before his death. Speaking to KTLA on November 18, he tearfully expressed his longing for his daughter, saying, “I miss her. Just want her to know that, and just want her to reach out – anything.”

The Kobayashi family, supported by the nonprofit organization RAD Movement, organized rallies and distributed flyers in downtown Los Angeles to raise awareness about Hannah’s disappearance. Despite their efforts, they received no new leads.

On November 24, LAPD officers responded to a report of a death on Century Boulevard near LAX, where Ryan’s body was discovered. While the police have not disclosed the cause of death, the RAD Movement confirmed that Ryan took his own life, adding, “This loss has compounded the family’s suffering immeasurably.”

The RAD Movement emphasized the urgency of the search for Hannah, stating she is believed to be in imminent danger. They urged the public to remain vigilant, report sightings to 911, and direct any tips or inquiries to their organization. Out of respect for the family, they requested privacy during this profoundly difficult time.

Hannah is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, fair skin, and freckles. Her family continues to implore the community to help bring her home, keeping hope alive despite the overwhelming tragedy.
